Update, update, hear all about it!

Ok, I'm sorry that its been so long, but I've been sooooooooooooooo busy and all but i'm happy to report that i'm on Christmas break and that i actually have a warning(and tips.)
You know plastic? Well some kinds of plastic are really dangerous for your health. They're organized by numbers. The numbers are found inside the recycling symbol on (usually) the bottom of the plastic item. Here:
  1. PETE (polyethylene terephalate) This form of plastic is actually the safest kind-as long t is not heated, because then the plastic melts into whatever its holding. Waterbottles and dish soap bottles are one form of #1 plastic. You know when you taste your water out of your water bottle, and it tastes really bad? well thats when its heated. its reusable and the safest.
  2. HDPE (High density polythylene) basically the same as #1 except for that its high density. Reusable and safe.
  3. VAP or PVC (Polyviny chloride) This one is dangerous. its in medication caps, some shampoo containers, plastic wrap, and it is not reusable and Not safe- it creates birth defects. try as much as possible to avoid this plastic, so ye, no plastic wrap. use wax paper instead.
  4. LDPE (Low density Polythylene) almost the same as #2, except low density, safe, reusable and fine.
  5. PPE (Poly Propylene) in food containers, floos containers, mostly containers, safe and reusable.
  6. PS (Polystyrene) in food court plastic beverage cups, measuring cups, some yogurt containers, and dangerous.this leaks styrofoam and gives cancer, weakens you immune system. not even reusable.
  7. PC (Polycarbonate) In reusable water bottles, ham containers, baby food containers, instant lunch packages, this is very dangerous as it disrupts hormones, stops growth, weakens physical and mental capabilities, and only is sometimes reusable.AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

i learned this all in school (science). For real, i did! we're learning about renewable (and not) sources that we are using for energy. it sounds like this blog, eh? well, i'm hoping that my teacher will girve me extra credit, as i have been doing this for a long time, and this blog was not specially made for extra credit. here (or read) that, teacher?

Slow dance

SLOW DANCE
This poem was was sent by a medical doctor - Make sure to read what is in the closing statement AFTER THE POEM.
Have you ever watched kids SLOW DANCEOn a merry-go-round?Or listened to the rainSlapping on the ground?Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?Or gazed at the sun into the fading night? You better slow down.Don't dance so fast.Time is short. The music won't last.Do you run through each dayOn the fly? When you ask How are you?Do you hear the reply? When the day is doneDo you lie in your bedWith the next hundred choresRunning through your head? You'd better slow downDon't dance so fast.Time is short. The music won't last.Ever told your child,We'll do it tomorrow? And in your haste,Not see his sorrow?Ever lost touch,Let a good friendship dieCause you never had timeTo call and say,"Hi"You'd better slow down,Don't dance so fast.Time is short. The music won't last. When you run so fast to get somewhereYou miss half the fun of getting there. When you worry and hurry through your day,It is like an unopened gift..Thrown away.Life is not a race.Do take it slowerHear the musicBefore the song is over.--------------------FORWARDED E-MAILS ARE TRACKED TO OBTAIN THE TOTAL COUNT.
Dear All:PLEASE pass this mail on to everyone you know - even to those you don't know! It is the request of a special girl who will soon leave this world due to cancer.
This young girl has 6 months left to live, and as her dying wish, she wanted to send a letter telling everyone to live their life to the fullest, since she never will.
She'll never make it to prom, graduate from high school, or get married and have a family of her own.
By you sending this to as many people as possible, you can give her and her family a little hope, because with every name that this is sent to, The American Cancer Society will donate 3 cents per name to her treatment and recovery plan. One guy sent this to 500 people! So I know that we can at least send it to 5 or 6. It's not even your money, just your time!

Sad news....

No, no one died, no, not my mouse (thoughi don't have any) didn't die, nothing like that. The sad news is this: You know those trash trucks? And you know the ones that pick up stuff from the recycling bin? Well, i saw one, and there was black smoke coming out non-stop, it was polluting so badly! Isn't that sad.

Now, for the good news, or at least, the tip:

  • You can setup a Recycling Bin at your school and at the end of one or two weeks, you can take it to the Nearest Recycling center and mostly, usually, they give you money for it. That way you can raise money for your school in a way that doesn't annoy your parents.

Sorry that this was quick, but i have to get off now, Good night, or at least, Good Week!

Global Warning

People think that Global Warming is just in the atmosphere. and, it is. But my mother says that there should be a Global Warning about my room. hehehaha. oh well. here are some tips:
  • Get new, the latest appliances, for instance refrigerators. You save money, though you do have to buy it, and it reduces your CO2 emissions by 500 pounds a year. Wow!! If you're a kids, then urge your parents to buy one of these refrigerators and etc. for when they buy their next appliance!!!
  • Reduce and Recycle!!!! if you use less items, and recycle more. You can recycle alot!!! Recycle aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastic, cardboard and newspapers and you reduce your CO2 emissions by 850 pounds a year.

If you do already just that, you save (let me think....).....1,350 pounds of Co2 emissions a year!!!!!!

  • if you leave the car at the house and instead take public transportation, walk, , bike, or work at home, you save 1,590 pounds per year!!!!

Okay, do all three and you save...2,940 pounds of CO2 emissions per year!!!! That's a lot!!Good night, and hope that you use these tips and share them.

a book!

everyone knows that books are my favorite. well, there is an exception: a complete total stranger looking at the blog, which would be great, seeing as i see no active life on this blog besides my writing. ah well. here's the news.
there's a book. its called:The Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook: 77 Essential Skills To Stop Climate Change by David de Rothschild.
Long title, right.
good night!

sos, live earth

Did anyone see live earth, a HUGE concert all around the world, on 7/7/07, brang together to help stop global warming?
well, here's the website: www.liveearth.org
here are some tips/things to know:
  • a thousand (that's right. 1,000) years later, your styrofoam coffee cups will still be around.
  • use florecent lightbulbs. 1/5 the energy, the same light. less money since you don't have to re-screw on and off so many times.
  • the U.S. has only 5% of the world's population, but 1/4 of the greenhouse gas.
  • a one-way flight from new york to la. makes each passenger responsible for 1 ton of the CO2 emissions
  • take the plug out of stuff that you aren't using. even if its off, it still takes energy out off the plug.
  • if you turn off your computors at home and work, you save as much as $100 per year.
  • grow your own fruits and vegetables.
  • take re-usable bags to the supermarket. they're usually on sale there anyway.
  • plant a tree. its obvious, really.and easy!! if you already have a tree, give yourself a pat on the back. you're already helping.

Now do this stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Biking basics

Does anyone know real biking basics on how biking to places helps the world-tremendously? Only 567,042 Americans bike to some places everyday,, presuming that they're on flat ground, go 5 miles, weigh 175 pounds, but either way, what they accomplish---when i found out, i felt like i was slapped in the face----they save 283,521 gallons a day, lightening 5.2 million pounds of CO2 gases from the greenhouse effect, they save 6.5 million dollars, while burning 1/4 of a billion calories.

Impressive, Huh? I was impressed. You should be.
go to www.liveearth.org. help. live earth is publishing an album soon, its not out yet, but either way.....

Ways to go green

Here are ways to go green:
  • don't use plastic bags. beg your mother to use an either already bought plastic old bag, or a cloth bag. or a gigantic plastic bag that is reusable.
  • turn off lights as early as possible--but if you don't want to turn off the lights and go to bed yet, just turn the light off when you go out of the room.
  • Recycle
  • Refill water bottles
  • Bike everywhere you can-hey its summer, you should!
  • turn off the heater--though in the summer you won't need it, but for the winter--and put on more clothes.
  • save your old t-shirts to make better, good ones.
  • save scrap fabric and make stuff (ex. bags, headbands)
  • write on both sides of the paper.
  • Don't grab batteries, grab rechargable batteries from Fry's ( the electrical store)
  • grab some oranges or lemons and make some sort of juice with a citrus presser. sell the juice and maybe even donate it to some charity. But that would be going really green & pink (breast cancer)
